Zeer, Men’s Lacrosse Power Past Gwynedd Mercy

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Junior Riley Zeer posted six goals and one assist and the Drew University men's lacrosse team won its second game in a row, earning a 17-6 victory at Gwynedd Mercy University in a non-conference tilt Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Rangers (2-1) took control right from the start and outscored the Griffins 9-3 in the opening half.
 
Senior Luke Bruther added three goals and one assist while classmate Mike DeMayo added two goals and one assist. Fifth-year Tommy Larmore also scored twice, and sophomore Jake Rainero won 16-of-21 faceoffs while picking up 11 ground balls.
 
All five Drew goalies saw action, with junior Sawyer Kennedy seeing the most time. He made eight save while yielding three goals over 34 minutes of action.
 
Jared Devine collected 18 saves for Gwynedd Mercy.
 
Zeer had a hand in three of Drew's first-quarter goals, scoring twice and assisting on another to help the Rangers build a 5-2 lead. DeMayo and junior Colin Diodato also scored in the period.
 
Drew reeled off the first four goals in the second quarter to build a 9-1 lead. Freshman Joseph Carabetta, Bruther, DeMayo, and Zeer all scored for the Rangers during the stretch.
 
Zeer scored the first two goals of the third quarter, including a man-up tally that made it 11-3. After the Griffins answered with a pair of tallies, freshman Nick Carabetta found paydirt to put Drew up 12-5 heading into the final period.
 
The Rangers settled any doubt in the fourth quarter, when they outscored the hosts 5-1. Tommy Larmore scored twice in the period while Burther, Zeer, and fifth-year Matt Giordano all scored once apiece in the final stanza.
 
Drew continues its season on Saturday, when it visits Albright College in another non-conference affair beginning at 1 p.m.
