AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Drew University baseball team lost by a score of 7-2 to The College of St. Scholastica on Wednesday in the final game of its spring break trip to Florida.

Senior
Anthony Diaz Jr. finished 2-for-3 to lead the Rangers (5-5). Classmate
Raiden Yost made his first start of the season on the mound and tossed 4 1/3 innings, yielding two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out two.

Seven different pitchers toed the rubber for Drew. After sophomore
Justin Bonito pitched 1 1/3 innings, five freshmen came on to make their collegiate debuts, including
Brody Allyn, who fired one scoreless inning. First-years
Ryan Reynolds,
TJ Pappas,
Leo Rossotto, and
Breckyn DeAngelis also registered their first appearances as Rangers.

Payton Jeffries tossed 7 1/3 innings while allowing just two runs (none earned) and striking out 10 for the Saints.

St. Scholastica (3-5) went in front with two runs on three hits and one error in the top of the third, then pushed across two more in the sixth to assume a 4-0 lead.

The Rangers got on the scoreboard in the bottom half, when Diaz singled before eventually scoring on a passed ball. But the Saints came back with two in the seventh to push their advantage to 6-1.

Drew scored an unearned run in the eighth before St. Scholastica set the final score with one in the ninth.

The Rangers open their Landmark Conference schedule at home versus Susquehanna University this weekend, starting with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon.
