Susquehanna Takes Two From Baseball in Landmark Opener

MADISON, N.J. – Susquehanna University took a pair of games from the Drew University baseball team in the Rangers' home and Landmark Conference opener on Saturday at Doc Young Field at Lonnstrom Stadium.
 
The River Hawks won the opener 10-4 and the second game 13-4.
 
Freshman Frank Master turned in a big day at plate in the first game, finishing 4-for-5 with a pair of RBIs while seniors Anthony Diaz Jr. and Ryan Jones collected two hits apiece while sophomore Mike Gallaro went 2-for-5 with a double.
 
Susquehanna never trailed in the opener after scoring five unearned runs in the top of the first. The Rangers pulled even after scoring three bottom of the first – capped by a two-run single by Master – and plating one apiece in the second and third. But the River Hawks went in front to stay with a with a run in the fifth before pulling away with a four-run seventh.
 
Senior Matt Colucci started on the mound for the Rangers and worked six innings, yielding just two earned runs on five hits and four walks while striking out two. Sophomore Aidan Bauer also tossed two scoreless innings.
 
In the second game, the Rangers jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning while junior starting Brandon Kobryn retired the first six batters he faced. But Susquehanna took the lead on a three-run homer from Tony Rossi, then plated three more in the fifth. Drew closed to within 6-3 after scoring a run in the seventh but the River Hawks pulled away late again, this time with a seven-run ninth.
 
Senior Raiden Yost went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs in the second game while sophomore Tyler Bell pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings of relief.
 
The two sides conclude their season series with a single game on Sunday, starting at 10 a.m.
