Baseball Downs Susquehanna in Series Finale

MADISON, N.J. – Sophomore Graham Ross fired 5 2/3 innings of two-hit ball, senior Connor Ruscansky worked a three-inning save, and eight different players recorded a hit as the Rangers topped Susquehanna University 9-5 in their series finale Sunday afternoon at Doc Young Field at Lonnstrom Stadium.

Graham (2-0) made the most of his first career start. After yielding an unearned run in the first, he blanked the River Hawks from the second through the fifth innings before the visitors scored another unearned run in the sixth. He finished with four strikeouts.

Ruscansky earned his fourth save in five appearances this year, allowing only two unearned runs on three hits.

Freshman Zach Maxwell led the way at the plate for Drew (6-7, 1-2 LC), finishing 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored, while senior Raiden Yost went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs, and three RBIs.

Jaden Buechler went 3-for-4 to lead Susquehanna (9-6, 2-1 LC).

The Rangers took the lead for good in the second, scoring twice on three hits. Freshman Connor Stokoe doubled in a run before scoring on a single from classmate Redsy Klein.

Drew went up 5-1 with two more runs in the third and one in the fourth.

Susquehanna threatened in the top of the fifth, putting runners on second and third with one out. But that's when freshman Anthony Vallaro threw out a runner at the plate on a ground ball to third before Ross induced a flyout to end the inning.

The River Hawks scratched out another unearned run in the sixth, when senior Kenny Yonker came on to retire the final batter of the inning.

Ruscansky entered the game after a leadoff single in the seventh, and Susquehanna went on to score two more unearned runs to close to within 5-4. But the Rangers opened up some breathing room with a single run in the seventh and three more in the eighth, capped by a two-run double from Yost, to go up 9-4.

The Rangers continue their eight-game homestand on Tuesday, when they host Moravian University at 3 p.m. in a single Landmark Conference outing.
