HONOLULU – The Drew University softball team twice carried a lead into the late innings, but Emory University used a pair of rallies to sweep a doubleheader from the Rangers during the team's spring break trip to Hawaii.
Drew (5-3) led 6-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth in the opener before the Eagles (12-2) scored five runs over the last two innings. The Rangers also held a 5-1 lead after five innings of play in the nightcap before Emory rallied with a seven-run sixth inning.
Junior
Olivia Magliacano posted another big game at the plate for the Rangers, finishing 5-for-7 while bashing the team's first home run of the season.
In the opener, Drew and its starting pitcher, sophomore
Allie Porbansky, led 5-2 after five inning before Emory rallied with three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh, capped by a walk-off, two-out single.
Magliacano finished 3-for-4 in the opener while senior
MacKenzie Pisani doubled and drove in three runs. Porbansky threw all 6 2/3 innings, striking out four and walking only one.
In the second game, Magliacano finished 2-for-3, and her three-run homer in the bottom of the second to go up 4-1.
Sophomore
Kaitlynne Streets started in the circle and pitched five innings for Drew, allowing four runs. Senior
Teagan Bradley tossed the last two innings.
Drew wraps up its spring break trip on Friday, when it plays Puget Sound at 10 a.m. HST and and Oneonta at 12:30 p.m.
