Softball Rallies, Wins Twice on Final Day of Hawaii Trip

HONOLULU – The Drew University softball team closed out its spring break trip to Hawaii on a high note, racking up 18 runs on 20 hits en route to a pair of come-from-behind victories on Friday.

The Rangers (7-3) opened the day with a 9-6 win over Puget Sound before topping Oneonta 9-4.

Senior MacKenzie Pisani turned in a big day for Drew, finishing 5-for-8.

In their first game of the day, the Rangers trailed 4-1 after two innings of play and 6-3 at the end of the fifth. However, the squad rallied with a four-run sixth to go ahead to stay.

Pisani finished 3-for-4 with a double versus Puget Sound while junior Olivia Magliacano went 2-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored. Senior Teagan Bradley pitched the final three innings to earn the victory in relief, allowing just one run while striking out three.

Oneonta jumped to a 3-0 lead after three innings before the Rangers erupted for a six-run fourth inning to assume the lead for good. Magliacano highlighted the inning with a two-run triple that put Drew in front to stay.

Junior Josie Di Troia finished 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored versus the Red Dragons while Pisani went 2-for-4. Junior Ashlyn Cassetty added a triple.

Freshman Olivia Datilio started in the circle and pitched four innings to earn her first collegiate victory, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks before sophomore Kaitlynne Streets came on to pitch the last innings to earn her second career save. She allowed just one run on four hits and a walk while striking out one.

The Rangers continue their season on Wednesday, when they visit The College of New Jersey for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
