Bradley Blanks TCNJ as Rangers Earn Split

EWING, N.J. – Senior Teagan Bradley twirled a two-hit shutout and the Drew University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at The College of New Jersey on Wednesday.

The Rangers won the opener 5-0 before the Lions captured the second game 4-2.

Bradley (3-2) did not walk or hit a batter and faced just two batters over the minimum en route to her seventh career clean sheet. The Lions had three batters reach base in the first two innings on two singles and a catcher's interference call, but one was caught stealing by senior Delaney O'Donoghue.

Bradley went on to retire 16 straight batters to end the game, tossing five consecutive perfect innings from the third through the seventh. She struck out three.

Junior Josie Di Troia backed Bradley with a big day at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with a triple, a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored. Junior Hailey Meierhofer went 2-for-4 with a triple while seniors MacKenzie Pisani and Fran O'Kleasky collected two hits apiece.

Drew (8-4) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI-single from O'Kleasky and gradually continued to pull away, adding single runs in the second and third. Meierhofer singled home a run in the second before Pisani followed a Di Troia triple to make it 3-0.

Di Troia set the final score in the fifth when she drilled a two-run homer to right-center after Meierhofer tripled one batter earlier.

In the second game, the Lions (6-8) took an early 4-0 lead, scoring four unearned runs on one hit and four errors. The Rangers cut the deficit in half with two unearned runs of their own in the fourth, when junior Aurora Marino and freshman Destiny Medina each singled in a run.

The Rangers threatened in the fifth, putting runners on first and second following an error and a walk, but TCNJ escaped with a groundout, the start of seven straight batters retired to end the game by starting pitcher Elizabeth Gosse.

Sophomore Kaitlynne Streets tossed a complete game for the Rangers and allowed just one hit while striking out one and walking two.

The Rangers continue their season on Saturday, when they visit Wilkes University at 1 p.m. in their Landmark Conference opener.
