O’Kleasky Picks up 100th Hit, But Wilkes Takes Two From Softball

EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. – Senior Fran O'Kleasky recorded her 100th career hit, but host Wilkes University edged the Drew University softball team twice in the Landmark Conference opener for both teams on Saturday.

The Colonels (7-4, 2-0 LC) won the opener 4-3 in eight innings, then captured the nightcap 2-0.

O'Kleasky reached her milestone with a two-out single in the fourth inning of the first game.

The Rangers (8-6, 0-2 LC) jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the opener before Wilkes tied it up with single runs in the third and fourth.

After Colonel starter Mia Butka threw six shutout innings from the second through the seventh, the Rangers went in front 3-2 when the game went into extra innings in the eighth. Junior Olivia Magliacano led off with a double and was bunted to third by classmate Haley Meierhofer before scoring on an error. But Wilkes won it in the bottom half, scoring twice on four singles.

Meierhofer went 3-for-4 in the opener for the Rangers while Magliacano finished 2-for-4 with two doubles.

Senior Teagan Bradley started in the circle for Drew and tossed four innings before freshman Gabby Duran came on to throw the final 3 2/3 frames. Both pitchers yielded two runs on five hits while striking out two.

The second game was a pitcher's duel between sophomore Allie Porbansky and Wilkes starter Lauren DeMarco, who finished with a one-hit shutout. Porbansky went the distance, allowing just two runs on six hits and no walks while striking out one over six innings.

The Colonels scored both of their runs in a three-hit third inning. But Porbansky settled in to blank Wilkes over the last three innings and retired the last seven batters she faced.

Drew put two runners on base in the first, when Magliacano and junior Gabby Di Troia each walked, but DeMarco escaped with a groundout and pop-out.

The Rangers stroked their lone hit in the fourth on a one-out single from senior MacKenzie Pisani. Drew also reached on an error in both the fifth and sixth but the Colonels did not allow a runner to advance past second base over the last six innings.

Drew continues its season on Tuesday, when it hosts Kean University in a non-conference doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
