NEWARK, N.J. – The Drew University men's volleyball team continued its highly-competitive schedule with a tri-match against another pair of tough opponents on Saturday at Rutgers-Newark.
Despite battling to close scores in numerous sets but lost by a final of 3-1 to Rutgers-Newark and 3-0 to Elmira College.
Drew's match with Rutgers-Newark was a Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) tilt, which the Scarlet Raiders (17-7, 3-1 CVC) won by 25-12, 27-29, 25-19, 25-21.
Senior
Ephraim Smith led the Rangers in the opening match, finishing with 10 kills, while freshman
Quinn Donahue handed out 24 assists and served up three aces. Freshman
Eric Forget picked up eight digs.
Drew competed in a non-conference match with its matchup with Elmira, and the Pioneers (15-5) won by scores of 25-17, 25-17, 25-22.
Smith led Drew again, this time with 10 kills and just one error on 21 swings for a .429 hitting percentage while also picking up seven digs. Freshman
Gio Martin threw down seven kills and made just one error on 12 attempts, good for .500 hitting, while Donahue handed out 22 assists.
The Rangers now have 10 days off before closing out the regular season with four straight home matches, starting with a CVC clash with Wilkes University on March 26 at 7 p.m.
