WASHINGTON, D.C. – Catholic University won the deciding point on a tiebreaker as the Cardinals edged the Rangers 4-3 in a Landmark Conference match Saturday afternoon.
Drew (4-5, 1-1 LC) led 3-1 before Catholic won the bottom the bottom three singles contests, including a 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (7-5) decision at No. 5 that clinched the match.
The Rangers won two out of three doubles matches to open the day with a 1-0 lead. Sophomore
Daniel Arcari and junior
Jesse Faro won 6-1 at No. 1 while sophomore
Ty Gelijns and senior
Josh Kline prevailed 7-6 (7-3) at No. 3.
After the Cardinals (10-1, 3-0 LC) won at No. 3 singles, Drew claimed a pair of singles wins to build its 3-1 lead. Arcari won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 before Faro claimed a 6-4, 6-2 decision at No. 1.
Catholic came back to tie it with wins at Nos. 6-4 singles before sealing it at No. 5.
The Rangers continue their season next Saturday, when they visit Goucher College at 1 p.m. in a rematch of the last year's Landmark Conference championship match.
