WAYNE, N.J. – The Drew University softball team opened the season by winning both ends of a doubleheader at William Paterson University.

The Rangers won the opener 7-2 in eight innings in the first game before edging the Pioneers 3-2 in six innings in the nightcap.

In the opener, the score was tied 1-1 before Drew broke it open with six runs in the top of the eighth. Senior
Fran O'Kleasky went 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs while junior
Haley Meierhofer went 2-for-4 two runs and two RBIs. Juniors
Josie Di Troia and
Zoey Shimp added two hits each.

Senior
Teagan Bradley tossed the first five innings, allowing just one run on three hits and no walks while striking out three. Sophomore
Kaitlynne Streets came on to throw the final three innings, yielding just one unearned run on three hits and no walks to earn the win.

William Paterson struck for two runs in the bottom of the first in the second game, but sophomore
Allie Porbansky blanked the Pioneers the rest of the way. The Rangers pulled even with two runs in the fifth, then pushed across the go-ahead run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Shimp.

The game was called after six innings due to darkness.

Porbansky went the distance in the circle, allowing just two runs on seven hits and no walks, while senior MacKenzie finished 2-for-3 with a double.

The Rangers are scheduled to play their home opener on Thursday, when they take on Montclair State University in a non-conference doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
