MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University baseball team scored six runs over the last three innings, but was unable to erase an early deficit and lost by a final of 9-6 to Saint Elizabeth University on Thursday in a non-conference tilt that was shortened to eight innings due to darkness.
The Eagles (13-14) led 4-0 going into the bottom of the fourth before the Rangers (12-14) scored four runs over the next two innings to make it 5-4 game. However, Saint Elizabeth pushed across four runs over the seventh and eighth innings to extend its lead to 9-4. The Rangers scored twice in the bottom of the eighth on a two-run double from senior
Raiden Yost before the game was called.
Five different players pitched for Drew, including senior
Kenny Yonker, who started and tossed 3 2/3 innings. He allowed three runs on three hits and two walks while striking out two and was charged with the loss. Sophomore
Aidan Bauer worked three innings while seniors
Matt Colucci and
Connor Ruscansky also pitched briefly. Sophomore
Tyler Bell threw one innings and did not allow a run.
The Rangers return to action on Tuesday, when they host Moravian University in a single Landmark Conference game starting at 3:30 p.m.
