Women’s Lacrosse Tops Lycoming in Offensive Showdown

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Drew University women's lacrosse team built a 10-goal lead, then held off a late Lycoming comeback as the Rangers defeated the Warriors 22-17 in a Landmark Conference matchup Saturday afternoon.
 
Sophomore Grace Patane scored a career-high six goals and handed out two assists for the Drew, which equaled its season-high scoring total. Drew's 22 goals are also tied for the seventh-most in team history.
 
Junior Aubrey Welch added five goals for the Rangers while sophomore Madi Strong contributed four goals and one assist. Junior Emma Gallaro scored three goals, and freshman Kristina Lowe pumped in two goals and four assists to go with five ground balls and 10 draw controls. Freshman Hayden Scotti added two goals and two assists, and junior Emily Monaco pitched in with three caused turnovers.
 
Freshman Rorrie Sifers made five saves over the first three quarters for the Rangers before sophomore Paige Shaw came on to play the final period.
 
Katie Maguire racked up 10 goals and one assist for the Warriors.
 
Strong scored the game's opening goal just under two minutes into the contest before Lycoming tied it three minutes later. Drew went on to build a 6-3 lead toward the end of the first quarter following two goals from Welch and one each from Patane and Scotti and another from Strong.
 
The Warriors scored the next three goals to make it a 6-6 game, only to see the Rangers reel off a 4-0 run to go up 10-6 at the half. Patane tacked on two more goals while Welch and Lowe buried one tally apiece.
 
Drew then erupted for an eight-goal third quarter, which featured three goals from Gallaro, two apiece from Patane and Welch, and one from Strong. Strong also scored the first goal of the fourth quarter to put her team on top 19-10.
 
Lycoming answered with back-to-back goals before the Rangers scored three in a row off the sticks of Lowe, Scotti, and Patane to give the visitors a commanding 22-12 lead with 8:10 remaining. Lycoming then ended the day on a 5-0 run, with Maguire scoring all five goals for the Warriors.
 
The Rangers are back in action on Wednesday, when they visit Moravian University at 4 p.m. in another Landmark Conference affair.
