Fritch Powers Baseball to Sweep at Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Senior Will Fritch went 6-for-9 with a grand slam and seven RBIs, leading the Drew University baseball team to a doubleheader sweep at Juniata College on Friday.
 
The Rangers (16-14, 8-8 LC) won the opener 10-6 before capturing the second game 9-4.
 
Fritch finished 2-for-4 with his grand slam in the first game while freshman Frank Master went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. In addition, senior Mike Gallaro went 2-for-5 with three RBIs.
 
Freshman Nicholas Garbooshian (1-0) started on the mound and pitched six innings to earn his first career win. He scattered nine hits while striking out four. Sophomore Aidan Bauer pitched two innings of relief before classmate Tyler Bell came on the blank the Eagles in the ninth.
 
The Rangers never trailed in either game and struck early in the opener, pushing across four runs on three hits in the top of the first. Juniata (8-24, 3-18 LC) scored once in the third before Drew broke out to an 8-1 lead on Fritch's blast in the fourth. With one out, freshman Anthony Vallaro reached on an error, senior Dallas Lorenzetti walked, and senior Anthony Diaz Jr. walked. Then with two outs, Fritch drove a pitch over the left-center wall for his third homer of the season.
 
The Eagles rallied with five unanswered runs to make it 8-6 heading into the ninth. However, Drew scored a pair of insurance runs in the top of the ninth on a two-run single from Gallaro.
 
In the second game, the Rangers piled up 16 hits, their most in a Landmark Conference game this season. Fritch finished 4-for-5 with three RBIs; fifth-year Anthony Hernandez went 3-for-5 with a double and a triple; Diaz finished 3-for-5 with three runs; and senior Raiden Yost finished 3-for-4 with a double, two runs, and three RBIs.
 
On the mound, junior Brandon Kobryn (5-2) started and worked five innings to pick up the win, allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits while striking out three. Sophomore Graham Ross then came on to pitch the last four innings and earn the save, yielding just one run on three hit while fanning three.
 
Drew went up 1-0 in the nightcap on an RBI-single from Yost. Juniata pulled even in the bottom of the first but the Rangers went up 4-1 in the second, which included a two-run single from Fritch.
 
The Eagles pulled to within 4-3 with a two-run sixth before the Rangers pushed across a run in the seventh on an RBI-double from Hernandez. The Rangers opened up a gap with a four-run eighth which included an RBI-single from Fritch and a two-run double from Yost. Juniata set the final score with a run in the bottom half of the inning.
 
Drew and Juniata close out their season on Saturday with a single game starting at 11:30 a.m.
