MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University men's tennis team swept the doubles competition, then won five of six singles matches en route to a 6-1 Landmark Conference victory over Wilkes University at a blustery Drew Tennis Complex on Wednesday.
In double action, the Rangers (5-7, 2-2 LC) earned a pair of victories via tiebreaker at the top of the lineup. Juniors
Jesse Faro and
Shivi Perera combined for a 7-6 (7-4) win at No. 1 while sophomore
Ty Gelijns and
Nicolas Mobayed prevailed by a 7-6 (7-3) count at No. 2. In addition, seniors
Josh Kline and
Sergey Kravchenko captured a 6-1 victory at No. 3.
In singles play, Faro won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 while Mobayed captured a 6-2, 6-1 decision at No. 2. Perera cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3, and Gelijns battled to a 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) win at No. 5. In addition, Kravchenko recorded a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 6.
Drew continues its season on Saturday, when it hosts Elizabethtown College in a Landmark Conference match at 1 p.m. and The College of New Jersey at 4 p.m. in a non-conference tilt.
