SCRANTON, Pa. – The Drew University women's tennis team lost by the slimmest of margins at the University of Scranton in its regular-season finale, as the Royals captured a 4-3 decision on Thursday.
 
Scranton (7-9, 6-2 LC) opened the match by capturing the doubles point, and it proved to be the difference as the two sides split the six singles matches.
 
The Rangers (10-9, 6-3 LC) have clinched a berth in the Landmark Conference Championship tournament, but must wait for the rest of the conference schedule to be completed before their postseason opponent is determined.
 
In doubles, Drew won at No. 1, as senior Mary Kalorin and graduate student Sophie Weaver captured a 6-4 decision to improve to 13-6 and 7-2 versus Landmark Conference opponents. However, the Royals prevailed in a pair of extremely close matches at the other two spots, winning 7-6 (7-5) at No. 2 and 7-5 at No. 3.
 
Weaver also captured a singles victory, winning 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 to cap a perfect season (8-0) in Landmark Conference play.
 
Drew also earned a pair of wins at Nos. 3-4 singles, as sophomores Riley Roesel and Danielle Pettoni both won in a 10-point tiebreaker. Roesel recorded a 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (10-6) victory at No. 3 to finish the season 8-1 versus Landmark Conference opponents while Pettoni rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8) win at No. 4. Like Weaver, Pettoni closed out the season undefeated (8-0) in conference action.
 
The Royals clinched the match win wins at Nos. 1, 5, and 6 singles.
 
The Landmark Conference regular season wraps up on Friday and Saturday. The first round of the Landmark Conference tournament will be held on Wednesday before the semifinals take place on Friday, May 2. The final will be held on Sunday, May 4 at the Central PA Tennis Center in South Williamsport, Pa.
