MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University men's tennis team won the doubles point, then clinched the match by capturing third, fifth, and sixth singles and Rangers cruised to a 4-0 victory over Juniata College in the first round of the Landmark Conference Championship tournament on Tuesday at the Drew Tennis Complex.
The No. 3- seeded Rangers (11-8), who won their third match in a row, will now visit No. 2 seed Catholic University on Thursday at 3 p.m. in the semifinals.
No. 4-seeded Moravian also won 4-0 versus Susquehanna on Tuesday and will visit top-seeded Goucher in the other semifinal on Thursday.
For the second match in a row, senior
Josh Kline clinched the win for Drew, as he rallied for a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles.
In doubles play, sophomore
Daniel Arcari and junior
Jesse Faro won 6-2 at No. 1 while Kline and sophomore
Ty Gelijns captured a 6-1 decision at No. 3. No. 2 doubles was halted after the doubles point was clinched, with freshman
Dikshan Chhikara and sophomore
Nicolas Mobayed leading 5-1.
In singles play, Chhikara added a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 3 while junior
Shivi Perera prevailed 6-1, 6-2 before Kline's match-clinching win.
Drew was leading in all three unfinished singles matches as well. Faro led his opponent 7-5, 3-2 at No. 1 while Arcari had battled to a 7-6 (10-8), 0-1 lead at No. 2. In addition, Mobayed was in front 6-3, 3-2 at No. 4.
