6/17/2025 5:42:00 PM

MADISON, N.J. – Michael McSloy has resigned as the men's basketball head coach at Drew University to become the new head coach at Ithaca College.

McSloy departs The Forest after a tremendous three-year run that was capped by an incredible 2024-25 season in which the Rangers won the Landmark Conference title and earned the program's first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III Championships.

"I want to thank Director of Athletics Christa Racine and the Drew University community for trusting me to lead the men's basketball program over the last three years," said McSloy. "I'm proud of everything we accomplished. Thank you to the players, their families, and our incredible alumni base for their effort and support in making our historical season come to life. I leave Drew with a heavy heart but I am excited about what's ahead in my new opportunity at Ithaca College."

McSloy was honored as both the Landmark Conference Coach of the Year and the National Association of Basketball (NABC) Division III District 5 Coach of the Year following his team's banner season this past winter. The team finished 24-4, setting the program record for victories, and went 18-0 in the Landmark Conference, becoming the first men's basketball team in conference history to go undefeated for an entire regular season. The Rangers also broke a team and Landmark Conference record for the longest winning streak (16 games), capped by the team's 85-70 victory over Catholic in the Landmark Conference Championship game. In addition, the squad broke into the national rankings for the first time in team history when it was voted No. 25 by D3hoops.com on Feb. 24, and they topped out at No. 16 in the final poll of the regular season.

The Rangers made their mark as a fast-paced and prolific offensive team under McSloy and in 2024-25, the squad finished fourth in Division III in 3-pointers made per game (12.2), seventh in points per game (89.4), and 26th in steals per game (10.1). In addition, the team set numerous school records for the second year in a row, breaking one-year-old marks for scoring average, total points (2503), and 3-pointers made (342). The team also broke a 41-year-old school record for assists (499) and a 36-year-old mark for steals (284).

McSloy also guided the Rangers to a spot in the Landmark Conference Championships in 2023-24, when the team went 20-6 and 13-5 in Landmark Conference play to earn the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament.

Under McSloy, six Rangers captured All-Landmark Conference honors, including three who landed first-team accolades. In addition, he coached three players to All-Met recognition while Josh Kline C'25 became just the third Ranger to earn NABC All-District honors when he was a first-team selection in 2024-25. In addition, he guided David Musial C'26 to the Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Year award in each of the last two seasons.

McSloy closed out his tenure in Madison with a 57-22 record, including a 36-14 mark in Landmark Conference play. His teams earned a pair of victories over nationally-ranked opponents – a 76-71 overtime victory at Catholic on Jan. 11, 2025 and a 96-81 win at Catholic on Feb. 10, 2024.

A search for McSloy's replacement will begin immediately.
