The Drew University men's soccer team will be led by a strong mix of veteran leadership and promising underclassmen as it embarks on its 2025 season.
The Rangers bring back 27 players from last year's squad, including eight who started at least eight games and seven players who scored a goal in 2024.
Drew is guided by 32nd-year Head Coach
Lenny Armuth, whose 405 career victories rank him seventh among all current NCAA Division III men's soccer coaches.
Offensively, junior forward
Kevin Martinez is back as the team's top returning scorer from last season. He netted five goals in 2024, including his first career hat trick with a three-goal effort versus Hunter College. Senior midfielder
James Cahill also returns after booting in three goals last season while starting every match. One of the team's most experienced players, he has played in 56 games and made 55 starts throughout his career and was an All-Landmark Conference Honorable Mention selection in 2023.
Junior midfielder
Nate Keller is also back after posting one goal and three assists a year ago. Additionally, sophomore sophomore forward
Vitalii Datsyk returns after scoring a pair of goals last season while sophomore midfielder
Turkcan Curak and sophomore forward
Alex Fiedoruk are back after scoring one goal apiece. All three played in at least 14 matches during their freshman campaign.
Senior midfielder
Jonathan Gutierrez also returns following a season in which he started 18 matches and registered a pair of assists. Senior midfielder
Jared Brown will also look to bounce back after missing much of the 2024 season with an injury but posted three goals and five assists over 45 matches and 37 starts over his career. Sophomore midfielders
Wiktor Kiszkiel and
Anthony Ruggiero also return after playing in 15 games apiece last season.
Defensively, the Rangers bring back a solid nucleus that includes three players who played in at least 10 matches last season, including sophomore
Konstantinos Papanikolas, who started all 19 games and registered one assist. Junior
Andrew Dunne also returns after starting 15 matches in each of the past two seasons while scoring his first career goal last year. Senior
Ryan Fischer is also back after playing in 35 matches and making 29 starts while scoring a pair of goals throughout his career.
Between the pipes, four goalies dot the roster this season. Junior
Jacob Avni started nine matches and posted a 0.89 goals-against average in 2023 while senior
Pim van Hilten and sophomore
Cameron Zutic return after appearing in one match each during their careers. In addition, junior transfer
Donovan Friedhoff will provide an additional option.
A total of 11 newcomers, including nine freshmen, will provide Armuth with outstanding depth once again this season.
Drew plays its season opener on Friday, when it hosts cross-town rival FDU-Florham at 5 p.m. in the first round of the Drew/FDU Fall Festival. Hobart College and Kean University will also compete in the event, with the consolation and championships matches taking place at FDU on Sunday. The team's Landmark Conference opener is set for Sept. 27 at home versus Goucher College.
