MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University women's volleyball team earned its first sweep of the season with a victory over Ramapo College in a non-conference match Thursday evening in Baldwin Gymnasium.
The Rangers won by scores of 25-18, 25-19, 25-12.
Drew posted their second-highest marks of the season in both hitting percentage (.204) and service aces (12).
Individually, sophomore
Lindsey Millis posted eight kills, five aces, and 12 digs. Senior
Emily Shirk added eight kills while freshman
Coco Otto contributed eight digs and four aces. Junior
Alyssa Rachwal distributed 14 assists, and sophomore
Aidyn Stone notched eight digs and seven assists. Freshman
Cristina Coombs added nine assists.
In the opening set, the Rangers held an 8-7 lead before opening up a gap with a 5-1 run. The Rangers pushed their lead to seven before the Roadrunners put up a late rally, drawing to within 20-17. But Drew closed the set on another 5-1 run, capped by consecutive kills from Millis.
Ramapo opened the second set on a 7-3, but a 7-1 Ranger run put the hosts up 10-8. The Roadrunners led 11-10 before Drew broke it open with a 10-3 spurt. Although Ramapo rallied again, pulling to within 22-19, but the Rangers won the next three points on a kill from Otto and back-to-back aces from Millis.
In the third set, the Rangers opened on a 10-5 run after two more aces from Millis. Drew continued to pull away over the remainder of the set as the Rangers claimed the first-ever meeting between the two sides.
Drew is back in action on Saturday, when it hosts a tri-match. The Rangers take on DeSales University at noon and Montclair State University at 4 p.m.
