Caporrino, Kelly Capture Landmark AOW Honors

TOWSON, Md. – For the second week in a row and the third time this season, the Drew University field hockey team has swept the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week awards.
 
Sophomore midfielder Emily Caporrino was selected as the conference's offensive athlete of the week for the second time this season while junior goalie Beth Kelly has captured the defensive AOW honor for the third time this fall.
 
Caporrino scored two goals, including the game-winner in the second overtime, in Drew's 3-2 victory at Western Connecticut University this past Wednesday. She scored with 1:34 remaining in the third quarter to put the Rangers up 2-1, then struck again with 5:23 left in the second extra session for her third game-winner of the year.
 
For the season, Caporrino has posted 18 points on eight goals and two assists. She is second on the team in both goals and points and is tied for second in assists. Among the Landmark Conference leaders, she ranks third in both goals and points.
 
Kelly averaged 12.5 saves per game while posting a 1.37 goals-against average while playing every minute in goal. In the win over WestConn, she recorded a career-high 17 saves, including seven in the two overtime periods. Kelly followed up with eight saves in a 2-1 win at Goucher College in the Rangers' Landmark Conference opener this past Saturday in which she allowed only a penalty-stroke goal.
 
For the year, Kelly has registered a 1.66 goals-against average and a .783 save percentage to go with a pair of shutouts.

The Rangers (8-1, 1-0 LC), off to their best start in 12 years, return to action on Tuesday, when they host Delaware Valley University at 4 p.m. in a non-conference affair.
