Elizabethtown Stops Rangers in Landmark Conference Tilt

MADISON, N.J. – Elizabethtown College scored twice in the first five minutes and the Blue Jays went on hand the Rangers a 4-2 setback in Landmark Conference field hockey action Tuesday evening in Ranger Stadium.

Kaylie Noel and Hannah Long scored Etown's first two goals off penalty corners before the Rangers (7-8, 4-3 LC) struck on a corner of their own. Junior Ellie Kopec took a corner pass from senior Liriana Seferovic and blasted in her ninth goal of the season to make it a 2-1 game with 6:10 remaining in the first quarter.

It remained a one-goal game before the Blue Jays (10-6, 4-3 LC) scored the next two goals, striking on a penalty stroke from Mia Fino and a tally from Hannah Long that made it 4-1 with 4:29 to go in the period.

The Rangers captured a spark heading into the half, scoring on the final play of the half on a penalty corner. Seferovic sent in a pass to the top of the arc, when Kopec pushed it over to senior Emma Rider on the left wing. Rider sent a pass inside to sophomore Bella Fini, who maneuvered around the keeper and slipped in her team-leading 12th goal of the year, making it a 4-2 game.

The game turned out to be a tale of two halves, however, as the two sides combined for just three shots on goal in the second half. Lily DeBlasio made her fifth and final stop in the fourth quarter for Etown while freshman Vanessa Pennella made her final two saves in the same period for the Rangers.

Drew plays its final regular-season home game on Saturday, when it takes on Juniata College in a Landmark Conference affair starting at noon.
