MADISON, N.J. - Four different players scored a goal and the Drew University field hockey team won its fifth game in a row, topping Delaware Valley University 4-2 in a non-conference tilt Tuesday afternoon in Ranger Stadium.
The Rangers (9-1) are off to their best start through 10 games and have posted the program's longest winning streak since the 2013 squad opened the year 10-0.
It was a 2-2 game heading into the fourth quarter before freshman
Bella Fini scored the go-ahead goal with 8:02 remaining. Freshman
Zyen Haynesworth added an insurance goal on a penalty stroke with 1:53 to go.
In a tightly-contested matchup, both sides took 14 shots and earned six penalty corners.
Juniors
Emma Rider and
Liriana Seferovic posted one goal and one assist apiece for the Rangers while classmate
Beth Kelly recorded five saves.
The Aggies (3-5) struck just a minute and a half into the contest before Rider tied it up less than a minute later, blasting in a shot from the top of the circle to pull the Rangers even. Neither side scored in the second quarter and it was a 1-1 game at halftime.
Del Val went back in front on a penalty stroke with 9:22 left in the third quarter. But Drew answered quickly once again, as Seferovic tipped in another rip from Rider, making it a 2-2.
Fini put the Rangers ahead for good when she took a deflected pass from senior
Emily Monaco from the right elbow and deposited a shot into the lower right corner for her team-leading 11th goal of the season before Haynesworth settled any doubt.
Drew returns to Landmark Conference action on Saturday when they host Lycoming College at 1 p.m.
