MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University men's swimming & diving team won 11 of 17 events and the Rangers celebrated Senior Day with a 152-135 victory over the University of Scranton on Saturday at F.M. Kirby Pool.
Drew's five seniors –
Brendan Burkett,
Nicholas Heinio-Widell,
Ricky Kilichowski,
Nick Shaffer, and
Gabe Spivak – were honored in a ceremony prior to the start of the meet.
Winning two individual events apiece were Heinio-Widell in the 100-butterfly (49.36) and the 200-butterfly (1:53.98), sophomore
Thiago Silva in the 50-freestyle (21.59) and the 100-freestyle (47.31), and Spivak in the 100-breaststroke (58.09) and the 200-breaststroke (2:12.03).
Capturing one race each were Burkett in the 100-backstroke (51.77), sophomore
Hunor Harsanyi in the 200-IM (56.94), and freshman
Marcell Hudak in the 200-freestyle (1:44.74).
Drew also swept the relays, with Burkett, Spivak, Heinio-Widell, and Silva leading off the meet with a victorious 200-medley relay (1:32.26). Heinio-Widell, Burkett, junior
Kyle Talerico, and freshman
Eric Friday capped the day with a victory in the 200-freestyle relay (1:24.94).
Adding second-place finishes were Talerico in the 50-freestyle (21.70) and the 100-butterfly (50.66), junior
Liam Gregory in the 500-freestyle (4:52.71), and Kilichowski in the 200-backstroke (1:57.38).
The Rangers will now gear up for the Landmark Conference Championships, to be held Feb. 12-15 at Loyola University's Mangione Aquatic Center in Baltimore.
