Women’s Volleyball Stopped by Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Drew University women's volleyball team had the University of Scranton on the ropes in the second set, but the Royals rallied and ultimately handed the Rangers a 3-0 setback in Landmark Conference action Tuesday evening in Baldwin Gym.

The Royals (12-8, 4-1 LC) won by scores of 25-19, 26-24, 25-18.

The Rangers (8-13, 2-3 LC) received six kills from senior Victoria Latino and five kills, five digs, and two blocks from freshman Jessica Donnelly. Freshman Hailey Kenefick and senior Amanda Rachwal distributed 10 and nine assists, respectively, and junior Aidyn Stone scooped 16 digs. Senior Meghan Pullen added a pair of blocks.

Angela Bush led Scranton with 13 kills while Cammi Quirk handed out 39 assists.

The visitors jumped ahead 11-6 in the opening set, and they led by at least three the rest of the way.

Drew came out red hot in the second set, scoring the first four points before pushing their lead to 11-3 and eventually 18-10. Donnelly threw down four kills during the stretch while Millis notched three of her kills. However, Scranton answered with a 6-1 run to pull to within 19-16.

The Rangers were two points from winning the set after Donnelly's fifth and final kill of the period made it 23-19. However, that's when the Royals responded with a 5-0 run to go up 24-23. A service error made it 24-24, but Scranton ended the set on a pair of kills.

The third set was close most of the way, and Scranton led just 18-15 following a service ace from Millis. But the Royals scored the next four points to start a match-ending 7-3 run.

The Rangers continue their season on Friday, Oct. 23, when they host Catholic University at 7 p.m. in another Landmark Conference affair.
