Women’s Soccer Blanks Catholic for Another Landmark Shutout

MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw for the second game in a row, tying Catholic University 0-0 in Landmark Conference action on Saturday at a blustery Ranger Stadium.

It was the fourth shutout in six Landmark Conference games for the Rangers (4-2-7, 2-0-4 LC), who remained undefeated in conference play. They are now tied with Wilkes University for third place in the conference standings with three games remaining.

The conference-leading Cardinals (9-3-2, 5-0-1 LC) had entered the match 5-0 in Landmark action.

Catholic outshot the Rangers 9-4, but senior Sarah Crowley made five saves en route to her fifth shutout of the season and the 19th of her career. The visitors did not yield a shot on goal.

The Cardinals held a 6-1 shot advantage in the first half, when Crowley made three of her stops.

Each side attempted three shots in the second half, and Crowley registered a number of impressive stops during the period.

In the 60th minute, she made a diving stop at the left post on a long-range shot, and the ball hovered near the goal line before Crowley picked it up. After the officials huddled to discuss whethe the shot ball had crossed the line, she was ultimately credited with the save and the game remained 0-0.

Catholic nearly struck in the 71st minute as well following a corner kick. The Cardinals managed a quick back-heeled shot in the box, but Crowley went airborne to swat the ball way at the left post for her fifth and final stop of the night.

The Rangers return to action on Wednesday, when they visit Elizabethtown College in another Landmark Conference tilt starting at 7 p.m.
