WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore
Bella Fini scored three goals to pick up her third career hat trick and the Drew University field hockey team rallied past Lycoming College to earn a 4-3 victory.
The Rangers (5-5, 2-0 LC) trailed 3-1 with eight and a half minutes left launching into a comeback that was capped by a goal from junior
Ellie Kopec with just under three minutes remaining.
Lycoming (3-6, 0-2 LC) finished with a 20-11 shot advantage, but freshman
Vanessa Pennella made a season-high 13 saves, including a crucial stop off a penalty corner on the game's final play.
Neither side scored in the first quarter, but the offense picked up throughout the course of the game. The Warriors netted the only goal in the second quarter and led 1-0 at the half.
Fini put the Ranges on the scoreboard three minutes into the second quarter, striking off a pass from Kopec. Lycoming answered halfway through the third quarter to go up 2-1 after three periods of play.
The Warriors pushed their lead to 3-1 three minutes into the fourth quarter. That's how the scored remained until Fini flipped in back-to-back tallies 1:25 apart, pulling the Rangers even with seven minutes left.
Kopec then cashed in with her second game-winning goal in the team's last four games. She accepted a pass from senior
Liriana Seferovic on a penalty corner and drove in her seventh goal of the season.
Pennella made nine of her saves in the second half, including two following Kopec's game-winner.
The Rangers pick up their schedule on Tuesday, when they host Moravian University at 7 p.m. in a Landmark Conference affair.
