MADISON, N.J. – Moravian University scored the game's first two goals and the Greyhounds edged the Drew University men's soccer team 2-1 in a Landmark Conference outing Wednesday evening in Ranger Stadium.
Senior
Kevin Martinez scored on a penalty kick in the 59th minute for the Rangers (5-3-3, 1-3-0 LC).
In an evenly-played match, both teams attempted 10 shots for the night.
Neither side scored until the 33rd minute, when Colin Moyer struck off a cross for the Greyhounds (6-2-4, 2-0-1 LC). Both sides attempted three shots in the opening half and Moravian led 1-0 at the intermission.
The visitors doubled their lead in the 57th minute, when Sean Rieber stepped in front of a defensive clear and slipped in a shot inches from diving goalie
Donovan Friedhoff.
Less than 15 seconds later, the Martinez was tripped in the box before connecting on his first goal of the season and the first PK of his career.
The Rangers placed a pair of shots on frame down the stretch, but both were saved by Moravian keeper Joey Varano. The closest Drew came from pulling even, however, came in the 82nd minute, when senior
Andrew Dunne blasted a long-range shot from the left side that sailed just wide right.
Drew returns to action on Saturday, when it visits Susquehanna University at 1 p.m. in another Landmark Conference affair.
