MADISON, N.J. – Senior guard
Maddie Beyer scored a season-high 20 points, but the Drew University women's basketball team lost 70-60 to Catholic University in a Landmark Conference affair Saturday afternoon in Baldwin Gym.
Playing in her 100th collegiate game, Beyer shot 3-for-6 from 3-point range and 7-for-8 at the foul line while also posting four rebounds and a pair of steals.
Junior guard
Miabella Diaz contributed 10 points off the bench for Drew (13-10, 8-8 LC) while senior forward
Gianna Pica, who was also playing in her 100th game, notched eight points and six rebounds. Junior guard
Olivia Aliotta scored seven points, and freshman forward
Molly Chapman added five points and a season-high 10 rebounds.
Anna Scoblick scored 20 points to lead Catholic (17-6, 14-2 LC).
Catholic outscored the Rangers 23-16 in the first quarter but the Rangers narrowed the gap to one in the second quarter and trailed just 31-28 at halftime.
The Cardinals upped their lead to 11 late in the third quarter, but junior guard
Alice Altomare converted a pair of buckets late in the period as the Rangers cut the deficit to 49-41 heading into the fourth quarter.
Catholic led by 13 early in the fourth quarter, but Drew used a late push to pull to within seven on a free throw from Aliotta with 1:23 to go. But the Cardinals sealed their win at the foul line, where it went 6-for-6 down the stretch.
The Rangers open the final week of regular-season play when they visit Moravian University on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
