BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Moravian's Julianna Vassallo hit a 3-pointer with 0.8 seconds left and the host Greyhounds rallied for a 75-74 victory over the Drew University women's basketball team Wednesday evening.
The Rangers (13-11, 8-9 LC) led by as much as 20 early in the third quarter before Moravian (10-14, 8-9 LC) mounted its comeback.
Junior guard
Amy Rachilla scored 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting for Drew while junior guard
Olivia Aliotta added 12 points and five rebounds. Sophomore guard
Jocelyn Kingsley contributed 11 points and four assists, and senior guard
Maddie Beyer distributed five assists.
Vassallo finished with 23 points for the Greyhounds.
The Rangers jumped to a 21-15 lead after the first quarter, then tacked on by outscoring Moravian 25-17 in the second quarter to assume a 46-22 lead at the break.
Drew led 58-38 following a bucket from Aliotta with 5:02 left in the third quarter. But Moravian outscored the Rangers 17-4 over the remainder of the period, cutting the deficit to 62-55 heading in the final quarter.
The Greyhounds made it a one-possession game early in the fourth quarter, which is how the score remained for most of the period. Lizzie Lustig cut it to one (73-72) for Moravian when she split a pair of free throws with 23 ticks showing before Rachilla split a trip to the charity stripe 10 seconds later. After the two sides traded turnovers, Drew missed a pair of free throws before Vassallo banked in what held up as the game-winner. After a timeout, Drew managed a shot at the buzzer, but it was off the mark.
The Rangers play their regular-season finale on Saturday, when they visit Susquehanna University at 4 p.m. in a Landmark Conference affair.
