Fast Start Powers Women’s Lax at Maritime

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Drew University women's lacrosse team raced out to a 13-1 halftime lead and cruised to a 20-4 victory at Maritime College in a non-conference tilt Friday evening.
 
Eight different players figured into the scoring column for the Rangers (2-1), who have scored 41 goals in their two victories this season and 50 goals over their three games thus far.
 
Junior Madi Strong posted four goals and two assists for Drew while sophomore Hayden Scotti produced three goals and two assists. Senior Emily Monaco picked up four ground balls, including the 100th of her career, along with three draw controls, two caused turnovers, and one goal.
 
Senior Emma Gallaro added two goals, two assists, and two caused turnovers, and classmate Aubrey Welch contributed three goals, one assist, and five draw controls. Sophomore Kristina Lowe notched two goals, four draw controls, and three caused turnovers while junior Fiona Rooney netted a pair of tallies. Freshman Regina Williams chipped in with one goal, one assist, and three caused turnovers.
 
Junior Paige Shaw played the opening half and yield just one goal. Sophomore Rorie Sifers came on for the third quarter and made three saves before freshman Annie Durante played the final period between the pipes.
 
Drew held a 40-9 shot advantage over the Privateers, who were playing their season opener.
 
Strong scored three of Drew's first four goals, and Gallaro tossed in the last two goals of the first quarter to give the Rangers an 8-1 at the end of the opening stanza. Scotti recorded two of Drew's five second-quarter goals as the Rangers built their 12-goal advantage at the half.
 
After scoring twice in the third quarter, the Rangers stacked on five more in the final period, including two apiece from Rooney and Welch.
 
The Rangers continue their season on Wednesday, when they visit Kean University in a non-conference affair starting at 4 p.m.
