IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Drew University men's lacrosse team was handed an 11-8 non-conference setback at Immaculata University on Saturday evening.

The Mighty Macs (3-1) led just 7-6 after with eight minutes left in the third quarter before breaking it open with a 4-0 run that spanned the third and fourth quarters.

Freshman Yaneik Gallego and senior Riley Zeer paced the Rangers (1-2) with two goals apiece while graduate student Joost van der Horst contributed one goal and one assist. Junior Joe Barnish collected 10 saves in goal.

Drew picked up 45 ground balls on the day, including six apiece from Barnish and junior John Clinton and five each from sophomores Joseph Carabetta and Nick Carabetta.

The game was tied 2-2 at the end of the first quarter, when Gallego and Zeer each scored for the Rangers. The Mighty Macs opened the second period on a 4-0 run, but Drew answered with the final two tallies of the stanza, as Zeer and van der Horst found paydirt to make it a 6-4 game at the half.

Drew scored two of the first three goals of the third quarter, and tallies from senior Colin Diodato and Gallego made it a 7-6 game with 8:02 showing in the period. But that's when Immaculata put together its aforementioned 4-0 run to go up by five with 6:54 remaining in the game.

Neither side scored again until senior Theo Krueger struck with 3:06 left and Nick Carbetta converted with 1:59 showing. Drew managed to pile up seven shots the rest of the way, but only one was on goal.

The Rangers continue their season March 6-8 with the Leanos Cup. After Emerson and Montclair State play on Friday at 3 p.m., Drew will take on Emmanuel at 7:00 later that evening.
