MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University baseball team erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the first and the Rangers won 11-9 versus The City College of New York in their home opener at a chilly Doc Young Field at Lonnstrom Stadium in non-conference action on Thursday.

The game was called in the bottom of the seventh due to darkness.

Freshman
Nick Donofrio led a number of Rangers who produced big games at the plate, as he finished 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and a pair of runs scored. Sphomore
Anthony Vallaro went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and three runs while senior
Nick Bisaccia was 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs, and two RBIs. In addition, sophomore
Dylan Gallagher went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.

Nick Garbooshian started on the mound and worked five innings to earn the win, yielding five runs (four earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out two.

After the Beavers (1-9) scored a pair of runs in the top of the first, the Rangers (9-4) answered with their big inning. Vallaro and sophomore
Zach Maxwell ripped back-to-back RBI-doubles to pull Drew even before Gallagher put the Rangers on top to stay with a single. Junior
Aiden Mitchell added an RBI-single later in the inning before Bisaccia capped the frame with a two-run triple.

The Rangers continued to swing a hot bat when Donofrio clouted his home run – a solo shot in the second that made it 8-2.

Drew pushed its lead to seven with another run in the third, but CCNY cut into the deficit with a bases-clearing triple in the fourth that made it a 9-5 game. Gallagher nudged the Rangers' lead to five with another single in the fifth before CCNY scored four runs off a pair of Drew relievers in the seventh to make it a one-run game.

Donofrio set the final score with an RBI-single in the seventh before the game was called shortly thereafter following a pitching change and an errant pickoff throw to first.

The Rangers open Landmark Conference play this weekend, when they host Elizabethtown College for a three-game series, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon.
