Men’s Volleyball Earns Split on Senior Night

MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University men's volleyball team celebrated Senior Night with a sweep of Ramapo College and the Rangers earned a tri-match split on Saturday in Baldwin Gym.
 
The Rangers opened the day with a 3-0 loss to Marymount University in Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) action, with the Saints winning 25-23, 25-20, 25-21. Drew then defeated Ramapo 25-23, 25-21, 25-15.
 
Drew's two seniors – Jason Barbosa and Barend Oostdam – were honored in a ceremony before the start of its match with Ramapo.
 
Against Marymount, Barbosa registered eight kills while making just error on 13 swings, hitting .538. He also scooped 11 digs. Sophomore Matthew Adegbite added seven kills while hitting .400, and classmate Quinn Donahue handed out 26 assists.
 
The opening set was a back-and-forth affair the entire way, and Drew led 23-22 before Marymount scored the last three points. The Saints took command early in the second set, opening on a 10-3 run, but that was their largest lead of the match. The Rangers were tied at 18-apiece in the third set following a kill and ace from Adegbite, but Marymount pulled away down the stretch.
 
Against Ramapo, Adegbite paced Drew again, this time with seven kills while hitting .462. Sophomore Michael Shipman contributed six kills and six blocks, and Donahue recorded 20 assists and eight kills, making zero errors on eight swings. Sophomore Gio Martin added five kills and three blocks. Barbosa contributed another 11 digs.
 
The Rangers used a 5-1 run in the opening set to go up 23-19, though Ramapo rallied to make it 24-23. However, Martin clinched the match with a kill.
 
Drew outscored the Roadrunners 9-5 to start the second set and never relinquished the lead. In the final set, the Rangers broke out to a 13-6 lead and eventually widened it to 19-8 en route to the team's second sweep of Ramapo this season.
 
The Rangers play their final home match of the season on Tuesday, when they take on Kean University in a CVC affair starting at 7 p.m.
