MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University baseball team came up short in its bid for a Landmark Conference series sweep, falling by a score of 9-1 to Elizabethtown College in the series finale on Sunday at Doc Young Field at Lonnstrom Stadium.

The Rangers (11-4, 4-2 LC) were coming off a doubleheader sweep of the Blue Jays on Saturday. But despite's Sunday's loss, Drew has won each of its first two Landmark Conference series after also capturing two of three at Catholic University on March 14-15.

It was a pitcher's duel in the early going between Drew freshman
Jayce Thoroughman and Elizabethtown's Justin Marraccini. Both starters tossed three scoreless innings to open the game before the Blue Jays scored all of their runs from the fourth through the sixth innings.

The Blue Jays (11-4, 5-2 LC) struck for two runs on three hits in the fourth before the Rangers answered with one in the bottom half on an RBI-double from freshman
Nick Donofrio.

Elizabethtown added two in the fifth to make it a 4-1 game. Thoroughman left after five innings of work in which he yielded four runs (three runs) on seven hits and two walks.

The visitors tacked on five more runs on three hits, one error, and one hit batter in the sixth.

Freshman
Jordan Delude, junior
Aidan Bauer, and sophomore
Brody Allyn combined to throw the last four innings for Drew and did not allow an earned run over the stretch. Delude yielded two hits in 2/3 of an inning before Bauer blanked the Blue Jays on hit over 2 1/3 innings. Allyn fired a scoreless ninth.

Donofrio finished the day 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles while sophomore
Zach Maxwell went 2-for-3.

Marraccini (3-0) earned the win, yielding one run on three hits while striking out four.

The Rangers conclude their five-game homestretch on Tuesday, when they host Moravian University in a Landmark Conference tilt starting at 3 p.m.
