Welch Scores 100th Goal as Rangers Top Ramapo

MADISON, N.J. – Senior Aubrey Welch scored her 100th career goal and the Drew University women's lacrosse team won its fourth game in a row, downing Ramapo College 20-4 in a non-conference makeup game Monday afternoon in Ranger Stadium.
 
Welch reached the milestone with her first goal of the game, which she scored at the 10:10 mark of the second quarter to give the Rangers an 8-3 lead. She finished the game with three goals, one assist, and six draw controls.
 
Freshman Regina Williams posted six goals and one assist for the Rangers (6-2) while sophomore Hayden Scotti contributed three goals and three assists. Junior Madi Strong handed out four assists, junior Grace Patane posted two goals and one assist, and freshman Mackenzie Cavalieri also scored two goals. Sophomore Kristina Lowe added one goal, one assist, and six draw controls.
 
Senior Emily Monaco added a strong all-around performance with two goals, seven ground balls, five caused turnovers, and four draw controls. Freshman Gianna Paz also turned in an impressive defensive showing with six ground balls and five caused turnovers.
 
Junior Paige Shaw started in goal for the Rangers and made three saves while playing the first half before sophomore Rorie Sifers turned aside two shots in the second half.
 
Ramapo (3-5) jumped to a 2-1 lead, but Drew broke the game wide open with a 15-1 run spanning the first three quarters.
 
Monaco scored Drew's first two goals as the Rangers assumed a 4-3 lead at the end of the opening quarter. Drew went on to outscore the Roadrunners 8-0 in the second quarter, building a 12-3 halftime advantage. Williams poured in four of her goals in the quarter while Welch also converted twice.
 
The Rangers capped their run with the first four goals of the second half, with the final two coming from Williams, making it a 16-4 game. Drew outscored Ramapo 4-3 in the final quarter, with Cavaleiri scoring the last two goals of the game.
 
Drew continues its season on Wednesday, when it hosts Moravian University at 7 p.m. in a Landmark Conference affair.
