Mikey Sica Tosses Seven Scoreless as Baseball Downs Mount Saint Vincent

MADISON, N.J. – Freshman Mikey Sica fired seven scoreless innings to pick up his first collegiate victory and the Drew University baseball team defeated the University of Mount Saint Vincent in a non-conference baseball outing Tuesday afternoon at Doc Young Field at Lonnstrom Stadium.

Making his second career start, Sica (1-0) yielded just two hits and two walks while striking out four.

Offensively, senior Nick Bisaccia went 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, two RBIs, and two stolen bases for the Rangers (13-8), who scored a run in six of the eight innings in which they batted.

Sophomore Frank Master reached base four times and finished 1-for-2 with three runs, three walks, and two steals for Drew while freshman Nick Donofrio went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs. Sophomore Dylan Gallagher was also 2-for-3 with a double.

The Rangers provided Sica with all the run support he would need when they scored two in the bottom of the first. Drew tacked on single runs in the third and in every inning from the fifth through the eighth.

In the meantime, Sica was in command, allowing just a two-out single in the third and an infield single in the fifth. In the seventh, the leadoff batter reached on an error and eventually moved to third. But Sica capped his big day when he induced an inning-ending flyout before exiting the game following an 89-pitching outing. He tossed a three-up, three-down inning in both the first and the sixth.

Freshman Peyton Horning pitched the eighth for Drew before sophomore Brody Allyn tossed a scoreless ninth.

The Rangers return to Landmark Conference play on Friday, when they host Lycoming College at 3:30 p.m. in the opener of a three-game series.
