NAPLES, Fla. – The Drew University softball team opened its 2026 season and its spring break trip to Florida with a pair of victories on Sunday at the Gene Cusic Collegaite Classic.
The Rangers opened with a 9-0, five-inning victory over the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) before downing Rockford College 10-1.
Senior outfielder
Olivia Magliacano picked up right where she left off last season, when she was named first-team all-region and First Team All-Landmark Conference. She finished opening day 5-for-8 with two triples, one home run, six RBIs, and four runs scored. Both of her triples came versus Rockford, which tied the single-game school record. Freshman
Lorelei Lorentzen also turned in a big day with a memorable collegiate debut, going 5-for-7 with three RBIs.
In the circle, juniors
Kaitlynne Streets and
Allie Porbansky each tossed five-hit complete games. Streets fired a five-inning shutout versus Saint Joseph, striking out one, while Porbansky fanned six.
Against Saint Joseph, the Rangers jumped on top right away, scoring three runs in each of the first two innings. Senior
Aurora Marino roped an RBI-double in the first, and Magliacano smacked a three-run homer in the second.
Drew tacked on two runs in the third and one in the fourth. Sophomore
Megan Williams drilled a run-scoring triple in the third and was singled home by Magliacano.
For the game, Magliacano went 2-for-3 with four RBIs while Marino smacked a pair of hits.
Streets recorded her third career shutout and her first since her freshman season in 2024. She retired seven of the last eight batters she faced.
Against Rockford, Drew trailed 1-0 heading into the third inning before scoring at least one run in each of the last five innings. Lorentzen tied it with an RBI-single in the third before the Rangers pushed across three in the fourth on run-scoring doubles from freshman
Sophie Beshear and junior
Natalie Lorenzo and an RBI-triple from Magliacano.
Lorentzen singled home another run in the sixth before Lorenzo and Magliacano added their second RBI-double and triple, respectively, in the seventh.
Porbansky blanked the Regens from the third through the seventh innings, when she retired 11 in a row at one point. She did not allow a hit over her last four innings.
Lorentzen finished the game 4-for-5 with two RBIs while Magliacano went 3-for-5 with three runs and a pair of RBIs. Lorenzo finished 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs while Beshear and
Sloan Walmsley collected hits each.
The Rangers continue their southern swing on Monday, when they take on Alfred State College at 9 a.m. and Elms College at 11 a.m.
