NAPLES, Fla. – The Drew University softball team cruised to a pair of victories on the second day of its spring break trip to Florida on Monday at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.

The Rangers opened the day with a 9-2 win over Alfred State College before rolling past Elms College 10-1 in five innings.

Drew is now 4-0 on the season and has outscored its opponents 38-4 thus far.

Against Alfred State, senior
Haley Meierhofer finished 4-for-4 with a double and three runs scored while freshman
Sophie Beshear went 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs. In the circle, sophomore
Olivia Datilio started and earned a four-inning victory before sophomore
Gabby Duran tossed the last three innings.

The Rangers jumped to a 6-0 lead through the first three innings. Beshear opened the scoring with a two-run double in the first before freshman
Izzy Wiemer singled home a run in the second. Beshear ripped another RBI-double as part of a three-run third that put Drew up 6-0.

The Pioneers scored twice in the fourth, but the Rangers tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the fourth and one in the sixth.

In the meantime, Datilio was in control, yielding just two runs on five hits while striking out five. Duran then allowed just two baserunners (one hit, one walk) over three scoreless frames.

Against Alfred State, sophomore
Megan Williams went 3-for-3 with a double while Duran, freshman
Sloan Walmsley, and junior
Kaitlynne Streets contributed two hits apiece. In the circle, senior
Amanda Novak fired a five-hit complete game, striking out one.

The Rangers erupted for an eight-run second inning to take command versus Elms. The Rangers sent 13 batters to the plate, and Wiemer put Drew on the scoreboard with a two-run single. Streets followed with an RBI-double, and senior
Olivia Magliacano contributed an RBI-triple. Walmsley capped the big inning with a two-run single.

Drew scored its last two runs in the third, capped by a two-run triple from Duran.
Novak retired the first seven batters she faced. After the Lightning scored one run on three hits in the fourth, she fired a three-up, three-down fifth.

The Rangers continue their trip on Tuesday, when they take on Geneva College at 9 a.m. and Brooklyn College at 11 a.m.
