Susquehanna Takes a Pair From Baseball

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Drew University baseball team lost the first two games of its Landmark Conference series at Susquehanna University on Saturday.

The River Hawks (18-11, 9-5 LC) won the opener 10-6 before capturing a 13-7 decision in the second game.

Sophomore Frank Master finished 6-for-10 at the plate over the twinbill for Rangers (16-12, 7-9 LC).

In the opener, sophomore Dylan Gallagher blasted a solo home run to put the Rangers up 1-0 in the fourth. Susquehanna scored eight unanswered runs before Drew scored five runs in the seventh and eighth to make it 8-6, but that's as close as they would get.

Master finished 4-for-5 in the first game while junior Griffin Shenman went 2-for-3.

Junior Tyler Bell (2-5) started and tossed 4 2/3 innings for Drew before freshman Peyton Horning threw 2 2/3 innings. Senior Chris Tobia pitched the final 2/3 innings.

In the second game, the Rangers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but the River Hawks answered with nine unanswered runs from the third through the sixth innings. Drew threatened late again with five runs in the seventh and eighth, pulling to within 9-7, but Susquehanna added four insurance runs in the eighth.

Master went 2-for-5 with three RBIs in the second game while senior Nick Bisaccia went 2-for-4.

Freshman Jayce Thoroughman (2-2) started on the mound for Drew and pitched five innings. Junior Aidan Bauer worked 1 1/3 innings while senior Nate Sica (one inning) and junior Alex Feeney (2/3 inning) also took the mound.

The two sides close out the series with a single game on Sunday starting at noon.
