MORRISTOWN, N.J. – The Drew University softball team won the opener of a non-conference doubleheader at local rival Saint Elizabeth University on Tuesday, winning 14-1 in five innings before the Eagles captured a 4-2 victory in the second game.
In the opener, the Rangers cracked 12 hits and bolted to a 9-1 lead after two innings of play. Drew added a run in the third, then settled any doubt with a four-run fourth.
Freshman
Lorelei Lorentzen finished 2-for-4 with a double, two runs, and three RBIs while senior
Olivia Magliacano, freshman
Sloan Walmsley, and first-year
Izzy Wiemer also ripped two hits apiece.
In the circle, sophomore
Olivia Datilio (6-0) won her sixth straight start while staying undefeated on the season. She scattered four hits and did not walk or strike out a batter.
In the second game, the Rangers broke open a scoreless game with an RBI-double from Wiemer in the third to go up 1-0, then added another run in the fourth when junior
Karly Severinsen led off with a single and eventually scored on an error.
Senior
Amanda Novak blanked the Eagles through the first three innings before yielding a run in the fourth that made it 2-1. The hosts then pushed across three runs on three hits in the sixth to set the final score, as Saint Elizabeth starter Jocelyn Koo worked a three-up, three-down seventh.
Novak (3-2) did not walk a batter and struck out two.
Along with Wiemer, Walmsley and sophomore
Gabby Duran each doubled in the second game.
The Rangers return to action on Wednesday, when they visit Stevens Institute of Technology in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
