MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University women's tennis team defeated Wilkes University 4-3 in a Landmark Conference affair at a sweltering Drew Tennis Complex on Wednesday.
The Rangers (9-8, 5-2 LC) won the doubles point, then clinched the match with victories at third through fifth singles.
In doubles action, sophomore
Nicole Kalorin and junior
Riley Roesel won 6-2 at the No. 2 position while juniors
Kapriana Payami and
Danielle Pettoni earned a 6-1 victory at No. 3 as the Rangers took a 1-0 lead in overall team score.
Kalorin also scored a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 3 singles while sophomore
Madison Williams prevailed 6-0, 6-1 at fourth singles. Pettoni rounded out Drew's singles winners, capturing a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 5.
The Rangers came close to victory at Nos. 2 and 6 singles as well. Senior
Natalia Zamora battled her opponent to a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 decision while freshman
Natalia Melendez Sanchez lost a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) decision at No. 6.
Drew continues its Landmark Conference schedule on Saturday, when it visits Catholic University in a 1 p.m. start.
