Late Runs Lift Moravian Past Baseball

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Moravian University scored seven runs over the sixth and seventh innings and the host Greyhounds rallied for an 11-6 victory over the Rangers in a Landmark Conference baseball game Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore Zach Maxwell drilled a go-ahead, two-run single in the top of the sixth to put the Rangers up 6-4, but Moravian (10-12, 4-8 LC) answered in the bottom half with four runs on one hit, four walks (one intentional), and one hit by pitch versus three Ranger pitchers. The Greyhounds tacked on three insurance runs in the seventh.

Maxwell and sophomores Frank Master and Dylan Gallagher each finished with two hits for the Rangers (16-10, 7-7 LC). On the mound, sophomore Nick Garbooshian started and worked into the sixth inning, allowing six runs on eight hits and four walks while striking out four over five innings. He gave way to junior Graham Ross (2-2), who pitched 2/3 of an inning and was charged with the loss. Senior Brandon Kobryn pitched one inning and yielded three runs before sophomore Breckyn DeAngelis tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings.

Moravian took a 2-0 lead in the first, only to see the Rangers tie it on single runs in the second and third on RBI-singles from junior Griffin Shenman and Gallagher. The Greyhounds scored twice in the fourth to go up 4-2, but Drew went back in front with two runs in both the fifth and sixth. Freshman Anthony Tetto tied it with a towering RBI-triple in the fifth before Maxwell's two-run single.

The Rangers are back in action this weekend for a three-game Landmark Conference series at Susquehanna University. Drew plays a doubleheader on Saturday at noon before taking on the River Hawks in a single game on Sunday at noon.
