Landmark Conference Championship Information
MADISON, N.J. – For the second year in a row, the Drew University softball team has reached the postseason after qualifying for the Landmark Conference Championship tournament.
The No. 3-seeded Rangers (23-17, 8-8 LC) will take on No. 2-seeded Catholic University (29-11, 12-4 LC) in their postseason opener on Friday at 11 a.m. at tournament host and top-seeded Moravian University (29-9, 14-2 LC).
The championship began on Tuesday, with fifth-seeded Wilkes (22-17, 8-8 LC) defeating fourth-seeded Susquehanna (14-24, 8-8 LC) in a first-round game. The remainder of the double-elimination tournament will be held at Moravian, where Wilkes will take on Moravian on Friday at 1 p.m. following the Drew-Catholic matchup. Susquehanna will conclude the day on Friday when it faces the losing team from the Drew-Catholic affair in an elimination game at 3 p.m.
Three additional games will be held on Saturday starting at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. The championship game is set for Sunday at 11 a.m., with an "if necessary" game to follow.
The winner of the championship receives an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Championships.
Drew finished the regular season in a three-way tie with Susquehanna and Wilkes for third place in the conference standings. However, Drew was awarded the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament by winning the conference's No. 1 tiebreaker- head-to-head results among tied teams, finishing 3-1 versus the River Hawks and Colonels.
The Rangers are making their fourth appearance in the Landmark Conference Championships after participating in the event in 2008, 2021, and 2024. Drew's No. 3 seeding is the highest the team has been seeded in a Landmark Conference postseason tournament and the highest the Rangers have been seeded at a conference tournament since Drew was the No. 1 seed in the 2003 MAC Freedom Conference Championships.
Drew and Catholic will be facing off for the third time in the Landmark Conference Championships, as the Cardinals won an elimination game in 2008 and a first-round game in 2021. The two sides just met this past Saturday on the final day of the regular season, with Catholic capturing both ends of a doubleheader, 2-0 and 6-3.
Under ninth-year Head Coach
Erica Mehalick C'03, the Rangers have posted their fifth-highest victory total in team history. Sophomore
Megan Williams (.371) and freshman
Sloan Walmsley (.369) lead the team in batting, and senior
Olivia Magliacano has hit .353 while leading the team in doubles (nine), triples (seven), home runs (three), and RBIs (25). In the circle, junior
Allie Porbansky (8-4) leads the team in innings pitched (83 2/3), wins, and strikeouts (43) while posting a 2.43 ERA.
