COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Sophomore
Karine Johnson has earned her second weekly award, capturing the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Offensive Player of the Week.
Also the Landmark Conference Offensive Athlete of the Week, Johnson scored three goals in a 2-0 week. She opened with two goals in the team's 5-4 double-overtime win at FDU-Florham in which she tied the game twice in the fourth quarter. She followed up by scoring the game's lone goal early in the second quarter, lifting the Rangers to a 1-0 win over Goucher in their Landmark Conference opener.
For the season, Johnson is tied for third among the Rangers in goals (three) and tied for fourth in points (six).
Johnson becomes Drew's second NFHCA Player of the Week in as many years, as classmate
Bella Fini earned the same award on Sept. 24 of last season.
Drew (3-5, 1-0 LC), which has won its last three games, returns to the field on Wednesday, when it visits Delaware Valley University at 7 p.m. in a non-conference affair.
