Emmett Lewis is entering his fourth year as an assistant coach with Drew University Men’s basketball program under Coach Keckler. He is responsible for developing post players, scouting reports and game management for the Rangers.
Lewis, a graduate of Hampton University, is no stranger to New Jersey’s local talent. He has coached in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) with Rutgers-Newark Women’s Basketball program under Carol Meegan, North Jersey’s power house Orange High School “Tournament of Champions” and AAU teams in the Garden State. Lewis gained his “hoops” experience the hard way, as a walk-on at his Alma Mater as a sophomore. Lewis played several years in the Northeast region’s Semi-Pro League leading team Essex to back to back championships where he played against many NBA legends.
His coaching philosophy focuses on making sure the basic fundamentals of sound and tough, aggressive defense is played all while still keeping the original goal of Dr. Naismith-simplicity.
