Michael McSloy

Michael McSloy will enter his third season as the Drew University men's basketball head coach in 2024-25.

McSloy led the Rangers to an outstanding season in 2023-24. A young team that featured only two seniors went 20-6, posting the third-most victories in team history, and finished second in the Landmark Conference with a 13-5 mark in conference play. The team established itself as a prolific offensive squad once again, setting school records for both points per game (87.0) and 3-pointers made (319), marks that ranked eighth (tied) and third, respectively, in Division III. The Rangers opened the season on a school-record 11-game winning streak, and late in the season earned a victory at then-No. 15 Catholic, the eventual conference champion. Two of his players - Pat Higgins C'25 and Andrew Turco C'24 - captured All-Landmark Conference honors while David Musial C'26 garnered the conference's Defensive Player of the Year award. Higgins was a first-team all-conference selection, and he also received Second Team All-Met recognition.

In his first year at The Forest, McSloy coached the Rangers to a 13-12 campaign. His team made its mark as an offensive juggernaut, as the Rangers finished second in the Landmark Conference in points per game (75.0 ppg), 3-pointers made per game (10.0), and scoring margin (+6.4). In addition, the team's 249 made 3-pointers ranked fourth in program history while its 238 steals were the most by the Rangers in 31 years and fifth all-time at Drew. At the individual level, one of McSloy's players - Howard McBurnie Jr. C'23 - captured a slew of postseason awards, earning First-Team All-Landmark Conference, First-Team All-Met, Second-Team NABC All-District, and Second-Team D3hoops.com All-Region honors.

McSloy came to Drew from St. Joseph's University Long Island, where he has served as the head coach of the Golden Eagles from 2019-22. He enjoyed an outstanding season at St. Joseph's in 2021-22, leading his team to a 15-9 mark - the program's best record in seven years - and the squad's first Skyline Conference playoff berth in five seasons. In addition, he guided the Golden Eagles to a win over the highest nationally-ranked opponent in team history when they defeated No. 15 Yeshiva University. McSloy also coached one student-athlete to First-Team All-Skyline Conference and Third-Team D3hoops.com All-Region honors while another was named both the Skyline Conference and the D3hoops.com Region 3 Rookie of the Year. For his efforts, McSloy was honored as the Skyline Conference Co-Coach of the Year.

Prior to his arrival at St. Joseph's, McSloy served as assistant men's basketball coach at Gettysburg College for the 2018-19 season. As recruiting coordinator, McSloy garnered commitments from 12 student-athletes from eight different states. He also directed the scouting of all opponents and formulated the program's off-season training program.

From 2016 to 2018, McSloy was assistant coach of the New York University men's basketball team and helped develop three All-UAA Players and a conference Rookie of the Year.

Additionally, McSloy held assistant coach positions at Vassar College (2015-16), Connecticut College (2013-15) and SUNY Maritime (2012-13) before working at NYU. At the latter, McSloy played two seasons as a junior and a senior from 2010 to 2012 and earned Second-Team All-Skyline Conference accolades. The Kings Park, N.Y. native spent the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons at SUNY Oswego and was the 2009 Team Attitude Award winner.

A 2013 Maritime graduate with a degree in International Trade and Transportation, McSloy has worked with Elite/Exposure Basketball Events & Camps since 2013.
