Scott Gibbs joined the Drew University men’s basketball coaching staff in 2016.
Gibbs has played a major role in Drew's success over the last eight seasons, helping the Rangers go 129-68 and winning the program's first-ever Landmark Conference title in 2021 with a thrilling overtime victory over the University of Scranton in Baldwin Gym. The team also set a program record for most All-Landmark Conference selections with three apiece during the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons. Additionally, Gibbs has helped the Rangers capture seven Landmark Conference Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, or Rookie of the Year awards during his tenure.
Gibbs also helped guide the Blue and Green to an incredible campaign in 2018-19 in which the squad set a program record for victories, finishing 23-7 while going 12-2 in conference play and earning the No. 1 seed in the Landmark Conference tournament for the first time in program history. For his efforts, he was honored as part of the Landmark Conference Coaching Staff of the Year. In 2019-20, Gibbs helped the squad to the second-winningest season in team history, as the Rangers finished 21-7.
Gibbs’ year-round coaching focus centers on competitive player development. He spent two years as varsity assistant at Immaculata High School in Somerville, and he also served as head coach for Pure Basketball at the 15U-17U level for six years. During that time, Gibbs coached and developed numerous all-conference and all-county players in the Somerset, Middlesex and Hunterdon County areas.
Gibbs has trained and coached extensively with leading NBA Skills Coach Ganon Baker, including coaching at his NBA pre-draft camp and nationally ranked Prep Academy, where he has guided numerous top-flight high school and college players.
A graduate of Bloomsburg University, Gibbs grew up on Long Island, New York and excelled in basketball, tennis and soccer. As a tennis player at Bloomsburg, he won three PSAC Championships and earned two trips to the NCAA Division II National Tournament, where he earned a national ranking as high as No. 6.
Gibbs lives in Hillsborough, N.J. with his wife, Rhonda, and their three children.
