OT PK Sinks Men's Soccer

Vassar 2, Drew 1

A game winning penalty kick sunk men's soccer at Vassar, 2-1, on Sunday. The Rangers had taken the lead through Sam Nepveux before the host Brewers' Brian Bianchetti tallied the tying and winning goals, the later in the 104th minute from the penalty spot. The loss drops Drew to 1-2-4 on the season with five overtime games played while Vassar improves to 5-2. Jeff Rogers made eight saves in the game for the Rangers.

Nepveux, who scored his first collegiate goal on Tuesday against York, scored early in the second half to give Drew the lead. Anthony Pisani sent a corner kick out to the freshman near the 18-yard box. Nepveux hammered in a shot for the game's opening goal.

After taking the lead, Drew seemed more likely to double the advantage than to see the Brewers equalize, but Bianchetti's header off Zander Mrlik's throw in tied it up in the 75th minute. Though Drew held a hefty 12-7 shot advantage in the half and drew six saves out of Jake London, the Rangers could not find the goal to avoid overtime.

In OT, Mrlik was adjudged to have been fouled in the box off a long ball setting up Bianchetti's second. The senior tucked the winner into the bottom right corner of the net for the win.

The highly physical encounter saw 32 fouls called and five yellow cards doled out. Drew looks to get back to winning ways with another tough matchup on Wednesday night as it travels to Elizabethtown in one of the season's marquee contests.
