Rangers Comeback to Tie Mules

Rangers Comeback to Tie Mules

Box Score
ALLENTOWN, Pa. (October 13, 2010) - The Rangers came away with their second tie in three games on the road against Muhlenberg College this evening. Drew trailed for only the second time in its previous five games.

Muhlenberg (7-0-5) took the first of its two leads very early in the contest. With the clock reading 38:55 left in the first half, the Mules second-leading scorer Danny Way made the score 1-0 off a pass from Jacob Joseph.

Ten minutes later, Drew (10-1-2)  would get their shot to tie the game up when the Mules were called for a foul inside the box. Coach Lenny Armuth once again elected Adrian Kawuba (Watertown, Mass./Lexington Christian Academy) to take the penalty kick who converted on his fourth PK of the year.

The score would remain tied going into the second half with the Mules holding an 11-7 edge in shots. The Mules would get their next go-ahead goal on the aid of a corner kick. Kyle Plifka was credited with his first goal of the year after a scrum in front of the net.

With the Rangers now trailing 2-1, it would be Kawuba again that got the offense going. He made a cross to sophomore Kevin Walpole (Newark, Del./Sanford School) who beat the drawn out keeper to tie the game at two. Walpole is now second on the team with five goals in 2010.

The two teams would get a total of nine more shots in the two overtime periods with only two on goal. At the end of the 110 minutes of play, Muhlenberg held the slight edge in shots, 22-20.

Goalkeeper Jeff Rogers (Eldensburg, Md./Century) made seven stops on the night in his sixth career tie.

The Rangers will return home this Saturday when they take on Juniata at 3:30.
